No Fig Leaves at Rose Leyshon’s The Tinder Games

At first I thought the caravan parked opposite Card Factory must be selling some kind of fried meat or ethnic food product, but no. To my utter JOY someone's done the only good thing with a caravan (I am THOROUGHLY against caravan holidays, camping, sleeping bags, etc) and turned it into a wee art gallery. Filled with fabulous naked sculptures with lots of arseholes, and of course, cock. No fig leaves here hunni.

Rose's Tinder story of dick, tit, arse and vag pics struck a chord, particularly the bit about being bored and downloading, then deleting, the app. We've all been there.

Actually when I used it I never deleted it, but I'm pretty relentless when I'm single.

Anyway, the sculptures are perfect and imperfect. They're not Michelangelo and nor should they be. They are sensitively made with skill, hand-crafted to perfection...Much like the perfect nude selfie?

The way the sculptures have been formed, to me, perfectly evoke the dual feeling of vulnerability and empowerment felt when sending such a picture. The fact that the viewer can't go in the caravan to get close to the sculptures, only seeing them through the square peep show-like windows, also reflects the feeling the exchanging of naughty photographs - it's personal but you can't get up close, unless you get express permission.

There's an undertone of loneliness. The new way of digital dating that's meant to connect us all but...You want to be noticed, to be paid attention to, so get a quick hit of dopamine and press send baby.

The size of the sculptures, around a foot tall, also says something. I'm not sure what yet, but I loved it, and it was the perfect first exhibition to slide me into the BEAF festival.

Check out The Tinder Games at The Caravan Studio, and so much more, until the 4th July.
